Ah that stinks sorry =[. Its kind of funny though haha.

Btw, I recently find your blog and its one of my new favorites.

Its inspirational because I'm 16 too, but I lack slightly in the cooking department.

I know you're a little upset, but it's actually quite funny. Ah, to be young again!

Awww, sometimes I forget you are still a teenager when I read your posts. I hope you apologized to your Mom!

Haha. Of all things. I've definitely been grounded for worse though.

Hahaha.

Ah...just apologize, they'll forget about it quickly. Why was the fish bad anyways?

Nick...you must elaborate on the "bad fish". Was it rotten or something or just the wrong kind? You must have insulted her for her to ground you. I can just hear it: "You amateur! Don't ever buy me bad fish again!"

here's what happened: I told her to pick me up some wild salmon from the fish market. I told her to smell the fish before buying to make sure it didn't smell bad.

So I get home from school, I take out the fish, excited to cure some salmon, and I smell this awful stench. First off, the fish smells horrible, 2nd it was farmed scottish salmon. So ya know, I wasn't so excited to cure the salmon anymore and I blew off a little steam.

You're a celebrity now! Best teen blogger, remember?

You don't get grounded, you just turn around and say "No, YOU'RE grounded!"

Get your fish from Philadelphia Lobster & Fish across from the Whole Foods on Rte. 30.

I hope you have cats. You could be sure they would love you. Just don't smell their breath for a day or two...

Hope you work it out with your mom. And thanks for re-inspiring me to try to make my own lox for the first time. Soon. And what sort of wood should I use if I decide to smoke it, and what temperature should I not exceed?

I think I worked for a chef like you once... however, I forgave him because of his Swedish meatballs. I think everybody did.

I'm thinking perhaps what you should have said was, "Thank you for going out of your way to pick up some fish for me. I appreciate you taking your time to do something nice, which I know you did not have to do. Unfortunately it doesn't smell quite right - is there any way you could take it back or pick up some more for me? I would really appreciate it." But what do I know???

I have to agree with Barb here. She's your mom dude. Apologize and take it back to the store. If it really is spoiled, they should give you a refund or replace it for you.

Of course, Barb has the right of it.
But it's so hard at 16 to feel so passionate and yet to accept that those around you don't share your passion. Oh, if only they would just listen...
Some day, maybe even very soon (or already?), you'll laugh at this. In the meantime, the rest of us will just do the chuckling for you.
Thank you so much for sharing!

While bad fish is not acceptable neither is yelling at your mom--sometimes we are just trying to do our best. Give her a hug and tell her how much you appreciate the job she is doing--she will love ya for it.

seriously though, i'm not trying to insult you but...that's kinda bratty. food is food. maybe cause i live in a poor place (i'm only 13)but i like your blog. It's really funny! i stumbled on it when looking at my big bro's links.
keep up the funny and good work!!

Nick, I'm totally taking your side on this one...sorry to the mom's out there that are saying this is crazy, but if we didn't do something you guys asked, wouldn't you 'let off steam' too?

Bad fish sucks, I love salmon :)

Thanks a lot Everyone.

Barb you're definitely right. It was just a little demonstration of teen angst.

You TOLD your mom to pick up salmon? How about asking your mom to pick up salmon and saying thank you.
Brat

Clearly I did the wrong thing and was punished for it. I think that makes me an adolescent, not a brat.

I appreciate constructive criticism. Please revert to that next time.
