Strawberries
This is what gets me excited- 24 lbs of strawberries from a nearby farm. The question becomes, how will I use them?
Ahh, I love strawberries and all you can do with them. Alas though, strawberry season in florida had come and gone so I always see all these wonderful strawberry recipes 2 months late. See where I use to get strawberries maybe a day old from the plant, I now get them more then 2-3 days old from somewhere far away.
PIESSSS!!!!!!!!!! I've been watching nothing but shows and movies about pies so it's been on my mind.
I recently made a strawberry pie with a honey pie crust and I really liked that.
Um...also, strawberry ice cream! Strawberry frozen yogurt... Fudge! Make your own strawberry creamcheese...and them make a cheesecake. Macerated strawberries!
CANDIED STRAWBERRIES!! They sold them y skewers in Taiwan, I really like those...
Spinach and Strawberry salad: Fresh Spinach, sliced strawberries, sliced almonds, and a dressing of balsamic vinegar, honey, black pepper, and a few drops of olive oil.
OMG, well whatever you do you better do it quick. Of course you know you can and should freeze some. I recently purchased a few pounds from our FM and we froze some and made jam with the rest. Awesome
Hey! I saw your blog for the first time today after seeing a link to it on Michael Ruhlman's blog. I'm 22 and I've been cooking since 17, so I love reading your blog because I feel like the discoveries you're making are pretty much the same ones I'm making today.
Anyway, I think you should make "cured strawberries" and put them in ice cream... It's delicious. Basically just slice strawberries and let them sit with a few healthy pinches of kosher salt for about an hour or so. Then whip up some homemade vanilla ice cream and swirl in the strawberries towards the end. There really is nothing like salt + ice cream. Trust me, it's great!
OMG!! I just saw that you were linked on Michael Ruhlman's blog...and under "Chef" blogs, too!! What a damn fine accomplishment. Seriously. Was that one of the coolest days of your life, or what? I've been reading quite a bit of hype about Greg Grossman, a 13 y.o. chef here in Chicago. You should get a publisist at this point. You deserve the Kudos he's getting. America loves an over-achieving teen...cash in while you can!! ( I think this post might have sounded facetious, but it isn't meant to be. I have really been an admirer of yours for quite some time.)
try macerating them in a balsamic reduction to place on top of a Italian cream cake, heavenly! Or make the pastel de tres leches with strawberry in the milks. Of course making your own jam/jelly would rock, and infusing it with some roasted vanilla or some other aromatics would rock.

I love the baskets full of strawberries. Seeing how they are probably the June-bearing crop, they probably did not set you back much?
I can imagine all the things you are going to do with them. Jam? Cakes? Preserves? Cool, dehydrated, put-into-musli type stuff?
I cannot wait to see what you do. I just planted a patch, and I am eagerly awaiting my harvest as well!

Those are beautiful! Time to make a simple strawberry tart! Berries and pastry...can't go wrong. Oh, and just a smidge of whipped cream!

Strawberries dipped in caramel. No contest. Well chocolate maybe.

Whatever you do, try using coriander with them.
